Accident Leaves Bicyclist Critically Injured In Mashpee
A bicyclist was critically injured in an accident that occurred on Sunday morning, April 3, in Mashpee.
Mashpee Police and Fire departments were called to the scene on Old Barnstable Road near Bridges by EPOCH assisted living facility at approximately 11:12 AM.
Police and fire units assisted the victim, a 52-year-old Mashpee man, with what appeared to be life-threatening injuries to the head.
A preliminary police department investigation revealed the victim was likely traveling on an electrically powered bicycle in a southwest direction on the walking path on the east side of Old Barnstable Road.
It appears the bicyclist appeared to have lost control, striking his head on the pavement, police said.
The victim was transported by medical helicopter to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston.
This accident is still under investigation by the Mashpee Police Department Detective Bureau and the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Crash Reconstruction Unit.
