Weekly Buzzards Bay Farmers Market Gets Select Board Approval
A weekly farmers market and artisan fair at Buzzards Bay park is officially on the calendar for next year, following the Bourne Select Board’s unanimous approval on Tuesday, October 4.
Andrew Driscoll, one of the founders and owners of Inebri-Art, was before the Community Engagement Committee in July to pitch the idea for a weekly market at the park. Inebri-Art, he said, is an eclectic company that produces a variety of podcasts and works with local businesses and creators to host events around Massachusetts. Earlier events hosted by the company include a Drink and Draw, where artists were invited to come to a bar, drink, socialize and get creative with whatever their medium of choice may be. Since the company’s inception in 2011, its scope has evolved and expanded to include comedy nights, marketplaces for local goods, art show pop-ups, and now, farmers markets.
The farmers market will take place every Wednesday from April to September, with operating hours of 2 to 7 PM and setup at noon. It will feature local farmers, crafters and artists selling locally made products and food items.
The select board had very little discussion on the topic. Member Judith M. Froman was pleased with the application and said she is familiar with the company, calling Inebri-Art “very professional.”
“I like the fact that your hours are not just in the middle of the day,” she said. “Some of us like to go by on our way home from work.”
The application received positive feedback from the various required town boards, with the recreation department noting that the applicant must receive clearance from the Army Corps of Engineers for use of the park’s parking lot and facilities.
