Christmas In Old Bourne Village Festivities

Christmas in Old Bourne Village kicks off tonight, and the annual event is gearing up for a big weekend full of community activities.

This year, participating locations include the Jonathan Bourne Public Library, the Briggs-McDermott House, the Bourne United Methodist Church, and the Bourne Historical Society.

The festivities begin Friday evening, December 2, with community members welcome to stop by the Briggs-McDermott House at 22 Sandwich Road for a “Victorian Christmas” from 4 to 8 PM. Tours of the grounds will be given, and attendees can enjoy complimentary refreshments. Decorated wreaths, boxwood trees, centerpieces, mugs, and more artisanal goods created by the Aptucxet Garden Club will be for sale from 2 to 7 PM.

Cookie Walks will be held at the Bourne United Methodist Church from 5 to 6:30 PM. Boxes of homemade cookies will be available for $8, and attendees are invited to tour the historic 1831 meeting house, which serves as the present sanctuary of the church.

Two mini-showcases of “The Nutcracker” ballet from the New England Ballet Theater will be presented at 5:30 and 6:30 PM at the Jonathan Bourne Public Library. The annual library tree lighting will take place at 6 PM and be immediately followed by the Caring & Sharing Silent Auction. The auction will end at 8 PM.

There will also be a Christmas Open House at the Jonathan Bourne Historical Center at 30 Keene Street. Attendees can warm up with some hot chowder, courtesy of the Bourne Historical Society, and enjoy the Christmas music and caroling by the Bourne United Methodist Church choir, set to begin at 7 PM.

On Saturday, December 3, and Sunday, December 4, the Briggs-McDermott House will be open from 11 AM to 2 PM for its “Victorian Christmas.” The Aptucxet Garden Club Wreath & Greens sale will continue on Saturday from 10 AM to noon. Admission is free all weekend.
