Bourne On The Fourth Of July Parade Sees Big Turnout

The Town of Bourne was finally able to revive its Bourne on the Fourth of July Parade for the first time since the onset of the pandemic, celebrating Independence Day earlier this week with a patriotic parade down Main Street.

The sun was shining as children and families crowded the sidelines, watching with wide eyes as the decked-out floats paraded past for the first time in three years.

Craig Poirier, Bourne resident and owner of the Crooked Row Farmstand in Buzzards Bay, was the lucky winner of the Most Patriotic Float award, earning him both a trophy and bragging rights. For Mr. Poirier, this award is the most important one in the whole celebration.

“It was a good feeling,” Mr. Poirier said. “I got there, and it was loud and it was exciting. I wasn’t sure how many people were going to be there when I got onto Main Street, and all of the sudden by the firehouse and Cumberland Farms and the police station, it was 12 to 15 people deep. I was like, this is just awesome.”

Mr. Poirier worked with friends at Timo Remodeling, a Sagamore Beach business owned by Derek Timo, and PIXY 103’s Matty B, to put the float together. Matty B himself was on the float, as was Mr. Timo’s children. His son, DJ, got the honor of posing for a photo with the coveted Most Patriotic Float trophy.

After the parade festivities concluded, Mr. Poirier’s celebration continued with a cookout and small block party in his neighborhood.

“I thought it was a great day,” he said. “Jen Kennedy does such an amazing job. It was good to see her excited. It was a really awesome turnout. I know Jen was nervous about it, but what a job. What a job.”
