Trail Cutting Held At Bourne Town Forest

The Bourne Open Space Committee and AmeriCorps volunteers went to work cutting new trails and replacing trailhead signs in Bourne Town Forest yesterday, Thursday, July 21.

Crews were on-site early Thursday morning off Valley Bars Road near County Road working to connect two sections of one of the loop trails in the forest. Richard Rheinhardt, a member of the Bourne Open Space Committee, said crews have been out on and off throughout the summer working to improve the trails, replace trail signs and place maps of the forest at trail junctions.

“There are a lot of trails out there but no good maps,” Mr. Rheinhardt said.

The maps are intended to make the town forest more approachable to people who are not entirely familiar with the layout but want to enjoy a hike or walk.

“We’re just trying to make it more accessible for everybody in town,” he said.
