Police Investigate Firearms Threat Made At Bourne High School

A firearms threat made at Bourne High School on Tuesday, September 27, is under investigation by the Bourne Police Department.

According to a joint statement released by the police department and Bourne Public Schools on Tuesday evening, an unidentified student made comments earlier that school day indicating the student’s intention to bring a firearm to school and use it.

Police said they were notified after the student was identified by staff, and it was confirmed that the student did not possess any weapons. Though the incident is still undergoing a full investigation, police said they have confirmed that the individual does not currently have access to firearms.

“The school system and police department take any threat toward students or staff seriously and do not condone any actions or comments made by anyone which threaten the students or staff,” the statement reads. “The police department will always fully investigate any of these threats, and if a violation of law is found, will file the appropriate charges.”

A determination regarding the student’s return to school will be made upon the completion of a thorough investigation, police said.

Out of an abundance of caution, the police department had additional officers at each of the schools throughout the day on Wednesday, September 28.

Officers confirmed on Thursday that it was determined that there was no credible threat.

Any student, staff, or caregiver with any additional information regarding the comments made by the student is encouraged to reach out to School Resource Officer Detective Connor McAnaugh at 508-759-4420, extension 8132.
