Bournedale Elementary Plans 'Book Tasting' Event

Bournedale Elementary School has announced that it will host its first “book tasting” event in March to celebrate Read Across America Day.

The event, which was announced this week via news release from Bournedale Principal Elizabeth Carpenito and elementary curriculum director Lisa Dix, is intended to get families and children to explore books in various genres. Students are given a “taste” of various types of literature to help them determine what kinds of books they might want to read in the future. Featured genres include fiction, fantasy, biography and nonfiction.

The event will be held on Thursday, March 2, from 5 to 6 PM at Bournedale Elementary School, 41 Ernest Valeri Road. Families may arrive at any time during that hour and explore as many genres as they would like.

“I look forward to welcoming Bournedale families to come celebrate Read Across America Day in our own unique way,” Ms. Carpenito said in the news release. “I am hopeful this event will be a great way for our community to share the joys of reading with our younger generation and perhaps introduce them to a genre they were unfamiliar with but may come to enjoy.”

Books will be provided by the school. In order to ensure adequate materials are available, all attendees are asked to respond to Ms. Dix by Wednesday. Ms. Dix can be reached at ldix@bourneps.org.

Read Across America Day was established by the National Education Association and first held in 1998. The day is traditionally celebrated around the birthday of famed children’s author Dr. Seuss and encourages children to appreciate books and reading.
