Bourne On The Fourth Of July Parade Will Close Roads Tuesday

The annual Bourne on the Fourth of July parade will make its way down Main Street in Buzzards Bay on Tuesday morning.

Bourne Police Chief Brandon Esip advised that Main Street will be shut down from Perry Avenue to the West Rotary from approximately 9:40 AM until the conclusion of the parade after 11 AM. There will be no parking permitted along Main Street from Perry Avenue to Academy Drive. Parking will also not be permitted on Perry Avenue, Cohasset Avenue or Academy Drive.

The closure of Academy Drive will begin at Wright Lane in Taylor’s Point starting at 8 AM. Vehicles traveling on Academy Drive will be redirected to take a right down Wright Lane from 8 AM until the last vehicle leaves the parade area, Chief Esip said. The department will have officers patrolling the area on bicycles; officers will slowly begin reopening the roads once the parade has concluded.

Bands, floats and marchers will begin the procession from Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Academy Drive starting at 10 AM. The parade will continue down Main Street and finish at Bourne Town Hall on Perry Avenue. The parade is expected to last about an hour.

Among those marching in the parade will be the town’s two championship baseball teams: the Bourne High School boys team, which recently earned the 2023 Division 5 state title, and reigning Cape Cod Baseball League champions the Bourne Braves.

Parade organizer Jennifer K. Kennedy estimated upwards of 20 parade floats this year, with an apparent competition emerging for best float. There will also be a number of different bands performing, she said, including one from New York City. Some of the bands will ride on flatbed trucks, while others will be marching.

The Fourth of July celebration will also include raffles, prizes, surprises planned by new participants, and t-shirt sales to fundraise for the cost of the parade.
