Pocasset Fire Results In Home Damage, Rescued Cats
Bourne Fire Department crews responded to a fire at a home on Fourth Avenue in Pocasset on Wednesday, April 17.
Assistant Fire Chief David S. Pelonzi said that a call reporting the fire came from the home’s occupant at 2:50 PM. Within seven minutes, he said, crews were on site at the mobile home at The Park At Pocasset off Barlow’s Landing Road. The fire was controlled within a few minutes.
“We had a quick knockdown,” Asst. Chief Pelonzi said, adding that the department received on-scene assistance from fire crews on Joint Base Cape Cod.
The fire was confined to the home’s heating unit, he said, and caused damage to both that unit and the home itself.
“They’ve got to replace the heating unit and some smoke damage to the residence,” he said.
The home’s sole occupant was transported to Falmouth Hospital, Asst. Chief Pelonzi said, with non-life-threatening injuries.
Firefighters also rescued two cats from the residence, he said. The cats were left with a neighbor and taken into custody by the Department of Natural Resources until the cats could be returned to the owner.
