Hardcourt Resurfacing Project Begins Today, Closing Four Courts In Bourne

Four hardcourts in recreational areas throughout Bourne will close for maintenance. Residents will be unable to access the courts at Bourne’s Clarke, Keith, Pocasset and Cataumet Schoolhouse rec areas for roughly the next month.

Bourne Department of Public Works will close the four courts simultaneously for work beginning today on Friday, June 14. Work is scheduled to begin tomorrow.

The closures are part of a long-planned repair project for hardcourts throughout town. Funds for the repairs were approved at Annual Town Meeting in May 2022.

A news release from the town said the work is expected to last about four weeks, weather permitting. East Coast Seal Coating will be working seven days a week from approximately 9 AM to 3 PM.

The scope of work for the hardcourt repairs includes filling all cracks and depressions, repainting and relining. The town has said that closure of the courts is necessary to facilitate the “much-anticipated resurfacing of the hardcourt, and ensure proper drying.”

Updates on the court repair project will be shared on the Hardcourts Resurface Repair Project page, which can be found on the town website on the recreation committee’s page.

Other hardcourts in town will remain open throughout the temporary closures, including those at town hall on Perry Avenue and at Chester Park on Arthur Avenue.
