Scenic Highway Crash Kills Dog, Leaves Multiple Injured
A three-car accident on Scenic Highway this afternoon left multiple people injured and resulted in the death of a dog riding in one of the vehicles involved.
In a public information statement released this afternoon, Bourne Police said that officers responded to the area of Scenic Highway near Edgehill Road around 12:43 PM today, September 17, for reports of a crash with injury.
"Upon officers arriving on the scene, they determined that three vehicles were involved in the crash," the statement said. "It was also learned that one of the vehicles contained a large sized dog and Bourne’s Department of Natural Resources was requested to the scene."
The dog succumbed to its injuries at the scene, police said.
Bourne Fire and Rescue requested mutual aid assistance from Wareham EMS and Brewster Ambulance, according to the statement. Each vehicle involved held two occupants, police said, and four were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries; two occupants declined to be transported.
A preliminary investigation of the crash, the department's statement said, revealed that one of the vehicles involved attempted to make an improper left turn while exiting a rest area and collided with a vehicle traveling eastbound. As a result, both vehicles ended up in the westbound lane, where police said the collision with the third vehicle occurred.
Further information was not immediately available, as the department's investigation into the crash is ongoing.
