NST To Hold Presentation On Afghan History
The Neighborhood Support Team Cape Cod, or NST, is sponsoring an event hosted by noted historian and author Brian Glyn Williams on the history of Afghanistan and its people this Sunday, November 14, at 3 PM at Waquoit Congregational Church
Dr. Williams has a PhD in Middle Eastern and Islamic Central Asian History and is the author of seven books, including “The Last Warlord: The Life and Legend of Dostum, the Afghan Warrior Who Led US Special Forces to Topple the Taliban Regime,” a book based on his time living in Northern Afghanistan while doing field research. He is currently a professor of Islamic History at UMass Dartmouth.
“We are delighted to have someone of Dr. Williams’s caliber here in Falmouth to share his knowledge with us,” said the Rev. Nell Fields, minister of the Waquoit Congregational Church and NST member. “His own experiences in Afghanistan add to his academic background. This will be a very interesting presentation.”
Dr. Williams will share personal experiences from his four summers spent living and working in Afghanistan. In addition to discussing the nation’s extensive history, Dr. Williams will also talk about the current state of affairs in relation to the recent American troops’ withdrawal.
The event, “Afghanistan: An Introduction to its History and People” is free to the public. Copies of Dr. Williams’s book “The Last Warlord” will be available for attendees. Masks are required.
