Falmouth's Veterans Day Ceremony To Be Held In-Person
Falmouth is gearing up for its traditional Veterans Day ceremony, which will be held in-person for the first time since 2019.
The services will start with a procession on Thursday, November 11, at 10:45 AM along Main Street from the village green to Memorial Lane in front of the Falmouth Public Library. Veterans wishing to participate in the procession are asked to be at the village green no later than 10:30 AM. Ceremonies will begin promptly at 11:11 AM.
This year’s keynote speaker is retired US Navy Reserve Commander Ronald Nasif. Dr. Nasif is a former orthopedic surgeon who had a 25-year Navy career, including more than a year as an active flight surgeon in Operation Desert Storm. He also served a brief tour in Iraq as an orthopedic surgeon.
Also attending the ceremony will be the Southeastern New England Coast Guard, the Falmouth Fire Rescue color guard, the Falmouth Police Department honor guard, Falmouth Scouting color guard, the Brian Boru Pipe Band and Falmouth High School chorus.
The town is asking all attendees to follow public safety guidelines and be masked up for the entirety of the event.
Additionally, the 2021 annual Veterans Day Tribute Breakfast scheduled for the morning of November 11 at the Flying Bridge Restaurant has been canceled. The event, which began in 2013, has annually honored hundreds of local veterans with a complimentary breakfast on the morning of Veterans Day.
As stated in a press release, the decision was made after “thorough review of the restrictive directives imposed by government health officials.” Owner Linda Zammer and other organizers “deemed it prudent to avoid even the remote possibility of placing any American military veteran at risk.”
