Planning Board Approves East Falmouth Boat-Building Facility
The Falmouth Planning Board on Tuesday, November 23, approved an application for a boat-building facility and boatyard at 550 East Falmouth Highway.
The applicant, Falmouth Boat Storage LLC, first appeared before the board in September, seeking a permit to build boats. Alex Khan, the owner of Shipwrecked restaurant in Falmouth, appeared before the board with his attorney, Paul Glynn, to explain to the board that boat building is his passion and he was looking to create his own place to do so. The building will be a 9,960-square-foot building for boat construction with an adjacent parking lot of 34 spaces.
Falmouth Boat Storage is also known as Falmouth Boat Yard, Mr. Glynn explained. He said that there was some indecisiveness about the name and it was ultimately decided that it would be called “Falmouth Boat Yard,” but the permit application submitted to the board reads as “Falmouth Boat Storage.” Town Planner Thomas Bott assured the applicant that this would not affect the application or permit moving forward.
The approval from the planning board gives Mr. Khan the green light to construct the project, with conditions and pending approval from other municipal boards. All six board members who were present voted in favor of the approval.
