Executive Director Of Falmouth EDIC Steps Down

F. Michael DiGiano, executive director of the Falmouth Economic Development and Industrial Corporation, has announced that he has stepped down from his position.

Mr. DiGiano, who lives in Falmouth, has served as the executive director at the EDIC for two years. He said his decision to step down stems from his involvement in commercial and industrial real estate in Boston. Mr. DiGiano is currently the executive vice president of commercial real estate company NAI Hunneman, a position he has held for 15 years.

“I really enjoyed working at EDIC and I enjoyed working with the town boards and various businesses,” he said. “This was ultimately a personal decision. I have other things demanding of my time and I had to make a choice and for me, this was the right decision.”

Under Mr. DiGiano’s leadership, the EDIC has accomplished some impressive feats, including connecting local businesses to Open Cape’s fiber optic network free of charge, furthering development of Falmouth Technology Park, and implementing solar power initiatives across town.

“In my two years with the EDIC I have come to understand how much work this organization does and what a unique niche it often fills,” Mr. DiGiano said in a letter to select board members. “And many of these projects would not have been possible without your collaboration.”

Christopher Land, chairman of the EDIC, said the group has already begun searching for someone to fill Mr. DiGiano’s shoes.

“We looked through several candidates at our last EDIC meeting and have selected a few to start doing interviews,” Mr. Land said. “It’s hard to tell [how long it will take] with these ones because of the requirements with state laws and et cetera. We’ll probably want to have the final two candidates come before the full board for an interview and a public meeting, so the public can hear them, we can hear them, and the whole board can hear them.”

Mr. DiGiano will be sticking around to help further current projects for the EDIC until a new executive director is hired. Mr. Land said he hopes to expedite the process of finding a new executive director but even with the extra help, the vetting process could take weeks.

“I don’t think we’ll be able to get that done by August, so hopefully that will happen by September and we can have a meeting and a vote,” Mr. Land said. “We’re looking to really grow the economic interest in the Town of Falmouth, so we’re really searching and hoping that diverse candidates apply and that we can get the right person to help us take on all of our big plans moving forward.”
