Dance Fundraiser Will Be 'A Cape Cod Gift Of Hope To Ukraine'

Falmouth residents will be coming together for a dance party fundraiser this Saturday with the intention of giving a “Cape Cod gift of hope” to Ukraine.

Don Cross, owner of The Gallery on Main, originally organized the dance party at the Coonamesset Inn as a way to get back into the swing of social life after two years of COVID. A date was set for April 9, and the party planning began.

“Then the war in Ukraine broke out and I just felt really guilty about us having fun like that when people were really, really hurting and downtrodden,” Mr. Cross said.

So, he decided to switch gears. After realizing that coordinating donations of supplies was more of a hassle than it seemed, Mr. Cross decided the best way to help the people of Ukraine was by making the dance a fundraiser, called A Cape Cod Gift of Hope To Ukraine, with all of the proceeds going to the International Committee of the Red Cross.

“They are on the ground and they’re really doing great things,” he said. “So, we switched gears and it just became this dance.”

Mr. Cross also teamed up with the Reverend Nell Fields of Waquoit Congregational Church to re-organize the event.

Alight with disco balls and projection screens, the event will feature live performances by The Grab Brothers Band, the DJ and VJ duo The Bosch Twins, who do work as Boston Event Lighting, and Graham Hearne, a multimedia artist also known as Oneirogen.

Tickets to the event cost $50 and can be purchased at www.thegalleryonmainfalmouth.com under the “Coming Soon” tab. There is a limited quantity available.

“That place is going to be, absolutely, a festival of life,” Mr. Cross said. “We’ve got a good show… It’s a fun, everybody come out, leave politics at the door thing. Just have some fun, raise some money at the same time, and do something good together.”
