Jed Cornock Appointed Town Planner

The select board affirmed the appointment of Jed Cornock as Falmouth's town planner at its meeting on Monday, April 25.

Mr. Cornock, a Carver resident, came to Falmouth as the assistant town planner in July last year. He worked with previous town planner Thomas Bott until Mr. Bott's departure in December. Since then Mr. Cornock has been acting town planner, while former town planner Brian A. Currie contributed as a consultant.

“He’s served us with distinction in his tenure here, not quite a year yet but we’ve been very impressed with Jed and I recommend the consideration of the board with great enthusiasm,” Town Manager Julian M. Suso said.

“I’m pleased to be your next town planner,” Mr. Cornock said. “As you can see from my résumé, I spent a great many years in the regional planning environment. This is the first municipal planning job, but I’ve soaked it all in like a sponge and I continue to do so.”

Before coming to Falmouth, Mr. Cornock was a principal comprehensive planner and contract coordinator at the Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District in Taunton for six years. He worked with 27 communities on master plans, community engagement and housing production while in that position.

“I’m really looking forward to continuing the good work at the planning department, working with other departments, and then also the public, working with the historical commission, and all applications through the planning board,” he said.

Because Mr. Cornock is a resident of Carver, the select board was required to waive the position’s residency requirement in order for Mr. Cornock to fill the town planner position. Mr. Cornock’s appointment was confirmed unanimously.

“I’ve seen you in action, I follow the planning board because I’m the liaison to that,” select board chairman Douglas C. Brown said. “That seems like you fit right in there pretty nicely so I appreciate it.”
