Telling Bourne's Stories - Editorial

My name is Calli Remillard, and I’m both excited and honored to be taking over as news editor of The Bourne Enterprise. Some readers might recognize my name, as I spent the last year covering a smattering of beats in Falmouth that range from human interest pieces and feature stories to affordable housing, environmental concerns and beyond. Some of these pieces also ran in the Bourne edition. During that time I met many terrific residents—many of them Enterprise readers—and built a great network through my hands-on work in the community. This is what I’m most eager to do in Bourne: to get to know the community, its residents and, most of all, connect with our readers.

Bourne’s reporting staff—composed of myself and Michael Rausch, our chief reporter whose name you will definitely recognize, with the rest of the Enterprise newsroom—is committed to delivering the most important, factual and up-to-date regional and local news that you want and need to know. My goal as news editor of The Bourne Enterprise is to reflect the vibrancy of Bourne’s community through not only reporting but also storytelling, which is a vital and often overlooked art of journalism. Exploring a town through the stories of its people is something I learned firsthand is key to building a relationship with that community, and this is what I strive to do here in Bourne. We at the Enterprise think of our newspapers as ever-changing forums for factual-based conversations and learning, which both the reader and the journalist can benefit from. And to be at our best, the Enterprise wants to reflect your voices. We eagerly welcome your letters, commentaries, story ideas, photographs and feedback on how we are doing and what we can do better.

As your new news editor, getting to know the town better and understanding more thoroughly the issues that its residents consider important are paramount to me. I am very much looking forward to being hands-on with you, the residents and readers, and working together to explore Bourne and the stories it has to tell.
