The iconic Spanish clay red tile roofing atop the Buzzards Bay railroad station and tower are currently being replaced by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s Railroad Division.
The building that houses the Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber of Commerce’s office and visitors center is undergoing construction to replace the original roofing tiles, which have severely degraded and cracked over time. A news release from the chamber dated February 13 says that the work is expected to be completed by the end of May.
The building and parking lot will be surrounded by staging and equipment during construction, but the chamber will remain open for business.
Parking will remain accessible but will be limited, with additional parking available along Main Street. A canopy has been erected for access in and out of the office portion of the building.
The chamber said it appreciates MassDOT’s commitment to “improve the aesthetics of the railroad station building built in 1916.”
