Marine Biological Laboratory's Plans For Gravel Parking Lot Placed On Hold

Plans to fill in a grass lot owned by the Marine Biological Laboratory at 33 Bar Neck Road in Woods Hole has been stopped until the proper permit has been issued, according to Jennifer Lincoln, conservation administrator of the Falmouth Conservation Commission.

Last week, a construction crew was seen working on the grassy area and moved a large pile of gravel onto the property. Gina Hebert, director of communications for the MBL, said the crew was repairing the area and making the ground level so it is safe for both pedestrians and vehicles. The organization also has plans to create a gravel parking area that will replace the current grassy area that has often been used for special event and overflow parking.

The conservation commission received a tip that the work was being done without proper permitting and has since been in touch with MBL’s contractors. Ms. Lincoln said the commission has addressed this issue with the MBL and the construction should move ahead as planned once the property is surveyed and the proper permits are issued.

“As of right now, we are following the direction of the conservation commission and are waiting the completion of a land survey so that we can discuss the next steps in the process,” Ms. Hebert said.
