Resilient Woods Hole Will Hold Coastal Resiliency Workshop On February 9
Resilient Woods Hole will host a virtual public forum and participatory workshop to discuss future planning strategies for coastal resiliency in the village on Wednesday, February 9.
The private-public initiative is run in collaboration by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Marine Biological Laboratory, and NOAA Northeast Fisheries Science Center, and incorporates local government, businesses and organizations as well as residents.
According to its website, the organization’s goal is to “ensure the vibrant and productive village of Woods Hole prospers well into the future with the advent of major climate impacts” using a “first-of-its-kind pooling of resources, intellectual horsepower, and management skills” to support the mutual interests of the community.
The forum and workshop are free and open to anyone who wishes to join. The session will begin with an updated review of Woods Hole’s vulnerability to sea-level rise and storm surge, followed by a breakout group session in which attendees will have the chance to discuss the importance of coastal resilience, preferred strategies, sewer adaptation ideas, and flood protection opportunities.
The workshop education efforts are funded through the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management’s Coastal Resilience Grant Program. WHOI, MBL, and NOAA are all matching funding contributions.
Registration for the event is required. Information can be found at www.resilientwoodshole.org.
