Students Back At North Falmouth Elementary Following Water Leak Issues

Students are back in the classroom at North Falmouth Elementary School following a water pipe break during Monday’s snow day.

Falmouth Public Schools Director of Finance Patrick Murphy said that custodial staff were in the building on Monday morning when one of the doorway vestibules to the outside of the school sprung a leak. Water seeped into four classrooms and the gymnasium, but the problem was quickly rectified.

“We have to always stay in touch with the vendor who handles the sprinkler system and the fire alarm system; they check on things,” he said. “They showed up by 4:15 in the afternoon; Monday was a busy day for them. They fixed it immediately and it was all good to go. School was open and ready on Tuesday and the classrooms were in good shape.”

Damage was minimal—a few classroom rugs and perhaps some bookshelves need to be replaced—and students were able to return to school as scheduled on Tuesday.

“We were only out one day,” said Superintendent Lori Duerr. “Including North, even with this issue.”
