Memorial Day Ceremony Set For 10 AM In Falmouth
Falmouth will remember and honor the fallen this Memorial Day with words, music and flowers.
An annual ceremony and march, hosted by the Falmouth Veterans Council and the Department of Veterans Services, will start at 9:45 AM with a procession of veterans and ceremony participants from the Falmouth Village Green to the memorial walkway in front of the library.
Robert Foos of the Veterans’ Council will emcee the ceremony, with the Reverend Christina Williams of North Falmouth Congregational Church leading the opening prayer.
“This year it’s going to be a really nice ceremony because the combined school bands are going to be there,” said Julie Cadogan, principal office assistant at the veterans’ services department. “I’m really excited about that.”
The combined school band will feature students from schools across Falmouth. The band will perform the national anthem and “America The Beautiful.” Eagle Scouts Rigel Laundre, Dalton Watring and James Waldon will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Brian Boru Pipe Band will also be playing throughout the ceremony. Taps will be led by Jay Souweine, a local man who Ms. Cadogan said has been active in the community and veterans’ affairs.
The keynote speaker will be retired US Coast Guard Commander Jeannot A. Smith. Also present at the ceremony will be the honor guards from Falmouth Police and Fire departments, the US Coast Guard and the Girl and Boy Scouts.
Flowers will be presented by Robin Ketchum of the Falmouth Garden Club, and additional floral designs on Memorial Lane will be provided by Vows Floral Design Studio in Falmouth. Both organizations contribute to the ceremony each year and supply floral designs that are used during the ceremony.
“It’s going to be a full slate. There are going to be a lot of people on the library lawn,” Ms. Cadogan said. “It’ll be great. Hopefully, a lot of people will come out in support of our veterans and their families.”
